Refresh map or layer

I am modifying a widget in ARCGIS Flex Viewer using Flash Builder.
As part of a ARCGIS Server Flex application I change a feature attribute of an arcsde layer using an sql (coldfusion) and that feature attribute determines how lines are colored in the operational layer as the service is generated from a single layer project (mxd) . I’m having no problem changing that attribute in the coding, I use a coldfusion sql.

If I change the attribute and then manually pan or zoom (even slightly) the color change of the line is shown, works fine.
If I use map.zoomIn that works also and the line color changes, (the modifications of the underlying sde operational layer or the service are displayed).

All I want to do is refresh the entire map as would happen with a zoom or pan but I dont want to zoom or pan, just refresh.
I’d be happy just refreshing the layer. I only have 2 operational layers so I guess I could get one from an index of the layer list.
I read somewhere that map.refresh() doesnt work and I need to use layer.refresh().

I thought this was going to be one of the most simple and basic things but I’m having real difficulties finding an example of it for some reason.

I just want to refresh the map or layer without manually panning or zooming.

How can I get the description value of a field that has a domain?

Hello, this is my first time posting on these forums so I apologize if I am doing something wrong beforehand!

I am trying to find a way to get a value from a field that has a domain. I noticed that getting a value using the normal approach only gives me the coded value of the field, but not the description value. Is there any way to retrieve the description? The coded value is not needed for what I am trying to accomplish. Here is the function I am using this in:

Code:

def getValues(featureClass,FieldName):
    desc = arcpy.Describe(featureClass)
    cur = arcpy.SearchCursor(featureClass)
    row = cur.next()
    names = []
    while row:
        name = str(row.getValue(FieldName)) #would like to get description and not code value on this line...
        try:
            ind = names.index(name)
        except:
            names.append(name)
        row = cur.next()

    return(names)

Thanks!

Topo North Arrow used in Data Driven Pages Problem

I’ve encountered a problem with a Topo North Arrow which is part of the Production Mapping extension. I’m using this in the ArcMap 10 environment and using Data Driven Pages to set up a servies of map sheets. I have gotten everything to work as I would expect but have encountered a problem when I save my .mxd and exit out of ArcMap. When I reopen the saved document, the Topo North Arrow remains static to the saved state and no longer synchronizes with the individual Data Driven Pages. Is it appropriate to add a Topo North Arrow to a map document and use it in conjunction with Data Driven Pages?

Judge David Ticehurst: Social workers are to blame for parents breaking their baby.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti…L-WORKERS.html

Quote:

The parents of a newborn baby left with horrific injuries and fractures all over her body walked free from court today, despite admitting child cruelty charges.

The unnamed infant was just 23 days old when doctors discovered she had suffered multiple breaks to her legs, knees, ribs, right wrist and right hip.

MRI scans showed the baby girl had also sustained a skull haemorrhage and trauma to her brain tissue.

But her parents were spared jail at Bristol Crown Court today, despite pleading guilty to child cruelty on the basis of neglect – because a judge blamed social services for the ordeal.

The court heard that a social worker had warned her bosses that the couple were incapable of caring for their child, but her fears were ignored.

Judge David Ticehurst sentenced the youngster’s father and mother to two-year community orders each, last December.

The child’s father is in his twenties and her mother is in her thirties, but their names were not released to protect the baby.

Judge Ticehurst told the father: ‘You clearly were far too young and not able to look after your child.

‘That child suffered considerable neglect due to your inability to care for her. But in my view you and your partner were let down by the social services, who have a duty to provide for you.

‘In my judgement it would be quite wrong to impose anything other than a community order, for you to get the help and support you need.’

Bristol Crown Court had previously heard that social worker Sara Matty had seen the baby’s mother at her home in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, and noted she had learning difficulties.

The father also had learning difficulties, and it was noted that he appeared to be ‘a bit clumsy’ with the baby and ‘inappropriate and childlike’ in his handling of her.

Ms Matty recommended that the baby be cared for in a mother and baby unit to ensure her welfare – but this was not followed up by North Somerset Council.

The baby remained at home with her parents, who received support from health care providers during the week, and help from the father’s parents at weekends.
[...]

The council said in a statement: ‘This family received extensive support and guidance from North Somerset Council as we attempted to keep them all together.

‘Unfortunately this high level of support did not prevent these events from happening, and we are deeply sorry for that.’

Judge David Ticehurst

I agree with the judge that the parents shouldn’t have been jailed. They should have been beaten to a pulp instead.

I swear, the UK get their judges from ‘Tards R Us’.

Body Found ID’d as Missing Mom, Bree’Anna Guzman

Bree’Anna Guzman
Quote:

SILVER LAKE, Calif. (KTLA) — The woman found dead Thursday morning near a freeway off-ramp in Silver Lake has been identified as a mother of two who disappeared a month ago.
Bree’Anna Guzman, 22, was last seen around 7:30 p.m. on December 26 leaving her Humboldt Street home.
Guzman’s mother Darlene Duran told the Canyon News that Bree’Anna said her boyfriend would be picking her up to go to the drugstore to buy cough drops.
Normally Guzman’s boyfriend would text her when he arrived at her home, so Duran said her daughter went outside to wait for him.
Police say the young mother never returned home and never reported to her job at the Glendale Galleria.
Caltrans workers found Guzman’s body about 9 a.m. near the Riverside Drive on-ramp to the 2 Freeway, near where it meets the 5 Freeway.
The body was obscured by bushes and partially covered in debris.
The woman was found naked from the waist down and wearing only one sock, a witness told KTLA.
Police officials said the poor condition of the body would make an immediate identification impossible, but family members said clothing, a tattoo and braces on the victim’s teeth leave little doubt that the Guzman was the woman found dead in the bushes.
Bree’Anna had two young daughters ages 15 months and 5 years old.
Friends and family gathered Thursday night for a candlelight vigil outside the Guzman home in Lincoln Heights.
"We just want to know why," said an anguished Celina Ararcon, Guzman’s best friend. "Why would somebody even bother her?
"She was somebody’s best friend. Somebody’s daughter. Somebody’s mother."

Dealership visit tomorrow, needs some help!

So I’ve had my 09 G8 GT since September and I’ve had a few minor issues. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love this car but I want it to be as "perfect" as possible before I’m out of warranty (less than 2000km left…). Anyhow, I’m taking it for a few issues:

1) Steering related noise at slow speed or stopped. Maybe tie rods, LCAs or steering linkage? Not sure, it sounds like a creaking type noise… seems to be worse during colder temps. Any thoughts?

2) I did some forum browsing and it seems like a fairly common issue. I have a rattle noise in my driver side door which seems to be resolved by adjusting the actuator that controls the door striker. This should be dealt with under warranty.

3) This one is hard to pinpoint. I have an annoying buzzing noise when I’m traveling about 80-90kph. I can’t pinpoint exactly where this damn buzz is coming from but it sounds like passenger side dash board area. Any thoughts as to where I should start looking to stop this buzz?

That’s about it… I’m pretty anal when it comes to my car so I would like to get everything sorted prior to my warranty expiring.

Thanks for any input!
